Press release -

SpinChem plays crucial role in SEK 19 million PFAS-project

The "Beat-PFAS" project aims to develop an effective solution for removing and destroying PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) from contaminated soil and water. The Umeå based company SpinChem AB is set to play a crucial role in this initiative, funded by Formas, a Swedish government research council dedicated to sustainable development, with a grant of SEK 19.9 million.

The project, led by Professor Jurate Kumpiene at the Luleå University of Technology (LTU), focuses on breaking the cycle of environmental contamination by PFAS, a group of harmful chemicals.

As part of the project, SpinChem's RBR technology will be integrated into a complete solution for treating contaminated soils. This innovative technology enables rapid removal of a wide range of PFAS compounds, contributing to the project's overall goals.

"We are excited to be a part of the Beat-PFAS project and to contribute our expertise in developing solutions for the global process chemical industry," said Emil Byström, CEO of SpinChem AB. "Our rotating bed reactors have already demonstrated significant potential in simultaneously removing anions and cations, and we are confident that they will be pivotal in successfully remedying PFAS-contaminated sites."

The Beat-PFAS project also presents exciting collaboration opportunities for SpinChem, a company driven by innovation and sustainability.

"It's thrilling to collaborate with key players like LTU, Luleå Environmental Resources (Lumire), and Nova Diamant AB, as we work together to develop a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for the PFAS challenge," concluded Emil Byström.

In its latest funding round titled "Blue Innovation – Implementation Projects," Formas has allocated 166 million SEK to ten projects.
