HILICON, based in Umeå, has achieved record turnover and significant market presence in chromatography within ten years. CEO Wen Jiang aims to launch new products in 2025, expand the premises, and in the long term double the turnover while maintaining a focus on innovation and tailored customer solutions.

Metacurum, based on Professor Maréne Landströms research and with Maarten de Château as CEO, is collaborating with the Institute for Cancer Research in London and Professor Johan de Bono.

MetaCurUm Secures SEK 1 Million Grant for Cancer Treatment

MetaCurUm AB has received a SEK 1 million grant from the Swedish Innovation Agency Vinnova to advance its therapeutic antibody for prostate cancer toward clinical trials. The Vinnova funds will be used further to validate MetaCurUm's mechanism of action and product. MetaCurUm is collaborating with the Institute of Cancer Research in London and Professor Johan de Bono.

Four pilot projects to lead the way in BRIDGE Sweden

Four pilot projects will receive dedicated support to accelerate the commercialization of their specific biological product through BRIDGE Sweden. The projects, three Academic and one start-up, will set the standard, help to identify essential offerings and refine the approach at SciLife Lab’s DDD platform, Testa Center and Lund’s Stem Cell Center and pre-GMP facility.

The Swedish MedTech company Mucocort AB has been granted a patent in China for its innovative product/technology, which has previously been approved under the European Patent System (EPC). Mucocort develops a mucoadhesive "patch" for mouth ulcers (aphthous stomatitis), one of the most common oral mucosal diseases.

Plastic-free fertilizers from Swedish startup could boost sustainable sunflower production

In 2025, the Swedish Ag-Tech startup Cropcision will run a trial of its plastic-free precision fertilizers for sustainable sunflower production in Spain, supported by EIT Food. Cropcision aims to improve the financial and environmental performance of farms, forests, and greenhouses, aligning with the EU's Farm-to-Fork goal to reduce fertilizer use by 20 percent by 2030.

Sofia Mayans, a seasoned life science professional and co-founder of InfiCure Bio, has joined Diamyd Medical in Umeå as Director of Business Development, focusing on leveraging new production capabilities and exploring additional business opportunities related to diabetes treatment.

Urban Eriksson has been appointed Chairman of Umeå Biotech Incubator, bringing 30 years of leadership experience, notably as CEO of SLU Holding. He emphasizes the importance of bridging research and practical applications in life sciences for sustainable development.

Global push for medical vest that aims to enable cancer treatment for children

Umeå based Nil Medical has developed an ergonomic, medical vest for children undergoing cancer treatment, allowing for greater mobility by concealing IV equipment within the garment. The vest is being evaluated in a national quality of life study, in collaboration with Swedish healthcare. Nil Medical aims to introduce the CE-marked "Vestpack" to the international market.
